“Sir, do you have your food storage?” I ask. “Ahh, yeah, kind of”, he replies. I then go for the juggler as I hold up a can with a possum image on it. “Sir, we’re selling food storage, but ours is so much better than other food storage, and more economical!” He looks at me very confused…then his serious face slowly turns to a smile. I continue my pitch. “Yes, our form of protein we use in our products is cheaper than our competition, passing the savings onto you! We scrape it off the road, quickly canning it before flies get on it” By then, the fellow is laughing. We then explain that we are selling gag labels, that you put on vegetable cans to share with your friends and family during the holidays.
We decided to buy a booth and sell our wares at the annual FCCLA Farmer’s Market fundraiser for Mountain Ridge High School last Saturday. We had a good time coming up with pitches as potential customers walked by our table. It was fun to catch people off guard and see their reactions to Bat Brain Chowder, and all the other crazy flavors of Humbuggernaut Fine Canned Food.
Another pitch we had fun with was asking people if they had their menu decided for Thanksgiving yet. We told people, “Just imagine when you’re having Thanksgiving dinner with your loved-ones and you let them try a sample of an unknown dish, then after they pull the fork from their mouth, you plop down a can of Snow Possum in from of them, and exclaim, “How’d you like it?” People had a good time thinking of all the fun ways they could take their relatives or friends for a ride. A few other pitches included, “Hey sir, wouldn’t this be a great gift for your boss this year?” or “Hey, what do you think your mom would do if she got this for a Christmas gift this year?
